Moon Sand

I wanted to share a recipe that I have found for students to really enjoy. It’s called Moon Sand. Moon Sand is a fun sensory idea for students at the Elementary level. You can make the sand any color you wish by just adding food coloring. There is also no harmful ingredient, which allows this to be fun for students at any grade level. Moon Sand is moldable, flexible, and squishy, students can use this to create shapes, and make observations. The best part about Moon Sand is it never dries out like play dough does. Some questions to ask you students; What does it feel like? What ingredients do you think make it moldable? I have used this before in the classroom and students love it. You can also make Moon Sand at home with ingredients that your household may have. Don’t forget to asks for mom and dads permission.  I hope all teachers and students enjoy my Moon Sand recipe!

INGREDIENTS:
6 cups of play sand
3 cups of cornstarch
1 1/2 cups of cold water
For colored sand add Food Coloring
